The council’s Assistant Clerk, & Finance Officer will be retiring at the end of June 2026. Coity Higher Community Council has taken the decision to create and recruit for the new role of Deputy Clerk & Finance Officer (Facilities & Assets).

We are seeking an officer to support and deputise for the Proper Officer (Clerk) of the council in carrying out her statutory responsibility to carry out all of the councils functions.  You will support the Clerk in ensuring that the instructions of the Community Council in connection with its function as a local authority are carried out.

The Deputy Clerk & Finance Officer will be responsible for day-to-day finance and manage the council’s asset portfolio, including future assets which may include Coity Higher Community Centre; the council’s current assets include play areas, green spaces and an allotment garden.

You will lead the delivery of repair, maintenance and improvement works, manage contractors and ensure buildings, open spaces, allotments and other assets are safe, compliant and fit for purpose. You will also lead revenue generation.

This exciting new role is a key step on the council’s journey to deliver more for Coity Higher and is critical to the continued development of the Council as it takes on more assets and responsibilities. It will improve resilience, reduce risk and ensure that the Council’s assets are protected and enhanced for the benefit of the community.

The Facilities & Assets aspect of the role will be central to shaping how the council’s assets are managed and developed in the years ahead.

  • The salary will be SCP 15-18 (£29,093 – £31,022) of the local government pay scheme – pro rata (pay award is pending).
  • Part-time (15 hours) on a flexible basis with a review after 6 months.
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Working from home allowance.
  • Initially the role will be working from home, but if plans for the Community Centre develop the needs of the role may change and hours increased with a move to set hours within an office environment.
  • The role will require the attendance at council meetings which are usually held during weekday evenings and will also require site visits to conduct audits and meet with contractors as required.
